The Orange Tree True Crime Podcast

Twenty-one-year-old Jennifer Cave went missing in the West Campus area of Austin, Texas in 2005. On the morning of 17 August 2005, the law firm where Jennifer worked called her family to say that she did not show up for work, which was very unlike her. On the 18th of August Jennifer’s mother and stepfather traveled to Austin to look for Jennifer. They found out that on 16 August 2005, Jennifer and her friend Colton Pitonyak went to Sixth Street in Downtown Austin to celebrate Jennifer’s new job as a legal assistant for a law firm. They found Jennifer’s car at Colton’s apartment, however no one answered when they knocked at the door. Jim, Jennifer’s stepfather was able to break into the apartment where he discovered Jennifer’s body in the bathroom.

Jennifer died in Colton’s apartment at the Orange Tree Condominiums in West Campus, Austin, Texas. She was shot through her arm. The bullet traveled into her chest and went through her heart killing her instantly. Her body was badly mutilated and had been partially dismembered and had many stab wounds and no effort was made to hide or get rid of the body. After her death she had been shot in the head once. Toxicology tests concluded that during her death, Cave had alcohol, marijuana, and methamphetamine in her system.

The story of Jennifer’s life and death is chronicled in the documentary podcast, The Orange Tree. Haley Butler and Tinu Thomas delve into the brutal crime scene at the Orange Tree Condos in Austin’s West Campus and reviews court documents and interview key characters of the murder in this riviting true-crime podcast.
